Vivint Home Score

I was asked to work gamifying Vivint help users make their homes smarter and to reinforce the value of the smart home to users in terms of energy savings and efficiency. I developed a basic conceptual model for all scoring systems and applied the model to Vivint. Then I created mockups to promote the project internally.

Components of a Score System

My study of social ontology came in handy when I developed this conceptual model for using scores to gamify an experience. Any scoring system has the following aspects:

Context

What is the context or situation?

Type

What is the score type?

Score owner

What is the person or thing that receives the score

Rules

How does the score accumulate?

Incentive

What is the psychological or social benefit?
Higher abstraction: What are the deontic powers?

Examples of the model
