But what we do determine oft we break.
Purpose is but the slave to memory,
Of violent birth, but poor validity,
Which now, like fruit unripe, sticks on the tree,
But fall, unshaken, when they mellow be.
—Hamlet Act 3, Scene 2
The year's half-way point is a good time for reviewing annual goals and resolutions chosen at the beginning of the year. Our goals and resolutions are at the mercy of our memory. How can we accomplish our goals if we don't remember them? This year I have had the most success in remembering and accomplishing my annual goals.
One thing that has helped me stay on track with my annual goals is simply setting more meaningful goals. I set more meaningful goals by being more explicit and thoughtful in linking my goals to my values. Another trick that has helped me alot is using my desktop wallpaper as a reminder space. I set my desktop wallpaper to an image that has my daily and yearly goals written down. I update it weekly when I accomplish a new monthly goal. Currently I do this manually, but it would be great if there was an app that updated the wallpaper for you.
You can download my template for my desktop wallpaper on my downloads page. I plan on updating the template in more formats soon.
