Motivation and Creativity

I love the visual remix of this lecture. The speaker in this video is Dan Pink who wrote, A Whole New Mind. This information is included in his new book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us which I am currently reading. The book is so good, that I will post more on it later. Essentially, creativity within organizations is best accomplished when motivations to do tasks are intrinsic rather than monetary. A perfect example of this is Google. Google give their employees what they call "Innovation Time Off (ITO)". Employees are allowed to use 20% of their time to work on whatever they want. When employees are working on their own projects, they feel more passionate about them. 50% of Google's new products were created from this ITO. Other companies have had similar success with ITO programs. Passion and ownership are necessary emotions that drive creativity.
